Does antone have, or know where I can find guidelines for transporting sterile instruments and supplies between facilities?

:) The Central Service Tech manual chapter 12 helps some. AAMI gives you information also. But remember it is your job to effectively transport a product that is free from bioburden. If it is a tray or even instruments in a container I have always used dust covers. Dust covers are made of a heavier material and allow you to send items from one building to another while keeping the integrity of the tray. :)

I have to agree with greenegldn, dust covers are the way to go. We don't transport between facilities often, usually just to borrow instruments from the small ortho surgery center up the street, but we always use dust covers to send stuff over. They generally use plastic trash bags, but we always open, rewash, and resterilize the items we borrow from them. We also use dust covers to transport and store anything in other departments (ER, OB, CP, etc)

Our facility is looking at sterilizing items for another hospital. Are there state regulations regarding transport of items? I am looking at totes and dust covers. Does this sound okay?
