Hey group,
I need your help on the following questions. I can not find any real documentation on the "Best Practice" for these question.

When using a a peel pouch and placing an instrument in the peel pouch that has has a curve at the tip do you ?

use a tip protector ? if so why ? or why not ?

Also which way do you place the tips in the pouch.

Tips up toward the plastic side ? and why this way ?

Or down towards the paper side ? and why this way ?

Thank you all in advance for your help.

It depends on the item if it is a sharp item we use a tip protector to prevent it from causing a hole in the peel pouch. We put it cvd side up because the plastic side of the peel pouch is more durable and less likely to get a hole punctured in it.

In my facility, I teach tips down with a non restricting, penatrated holes tip protector are to be used. Meaning an un- used larger then the tip. This is to allow steam or other steriliant to penatrate the tip. The reason tips down, is that many manufacturers have the item number on the oppsite side of the curve for ease of identifying the instrument. Also, I feel that the paper sleeve tip protectors (small) would be better to use because their is no chance of moisture at all. We just do not have them. Does anyone use this type and could tell me where to get them??

We do exactly the same as Sheper1's facility.
