Culturing Cannulated instrumentation

Recently my surgical department has had a string of infections. They have been limited to one doctor and we have tried to find all the commonalities. We have narrowed it down to a a few things. One of them is some cannulated instruments. Our Infection Control Nurse would like to culture these instruments.

Has anyone ever had to culture instrumentation and do you have a written policy for it? If so could you share this inforamtion with me?
