At one of our three major facilities, we have routine down-times for main steam line maintenance and/or repairs. All sterilizers are all down for approximately 12 hours. I understand the necessity to perform three biological tests after a "major repair", however, a steam line repair doesn't seem to fit into the category of a major sterilizer repair. This is not specifically addressed in the standards. We do a flush after steam line is open and have been doing biologicals. Doesn't seem that three are necessary since this does not actually affect the functionality of the sterilizer. Would appreciate knowing what the rest of the world is doing?

After a steam shutdown, it's necessary to run three Bowie-Dick tests back to back, and all three must be acceptable. The fourth load will be the one with the ATTEST.
