I was wondering if other sterile processing departments allow the staff in the prep and pack area to sit on chairs while assemblying trays? I am a new Manager in a department where chairs are the norm although in my long career I have never seen this practice. Please give me your input... Thanks in advance for your input.

Joan: We do have chairs for the tech's they can use. The chairs are washable. Most of them don't because it’s inconvenient. My staff frequently works overtime to get the instrumentation done. So I like to give them the option. As far as abuse, if there is one that is abusing the privilege then that can be dealt with on a one to one basis. You can just about bet one of their team members will let you know if that’s the case.Welcome to the profession.

yes, we do have them available, but most people do not use them. Brenda
