Are the OR staff at your facilty doing anything to the instruments as far as precleaning before they leave the OR?

This is a new standard that we are trying to work together as a team to accomplish. As with any other change, it can be difficult to have everyone comply. I work as a tech in the OR and we have added extra basins to the larger ortho cases to encourage the scrub nurse to rinse the instruments in sterile water before placing them back in the tray. Some days it's good and some days ewwww . . . well, it's a slow process. Digital pictures speak louder than words when complaints are not being addressed about excessive amounts of gross soil being left on instruments.

We have been extremely successful with the pre-cleaning of endoscopes in the room directly after use. We supply a user-friendly kit strictly for this purpose which makes things a lot better for everyone involved. CT
