Consolidating Departments

HAS ANYBODY CONSOLIDATED TWO SPD DEPARTMENTS? My departments are within a block & half of each other. In one facility we have very old equipment that needs to be replaced. In the other I have new state of the art equipment. With some expense we could handled the volume of the other place.The cost for new equipmenent is very costly.
The problem is everyone is territorial. What I'd like to know are some Pros & Cons of consolidation these two departments.
