rule is to keep clean and dirty seperate - even though gross soil may have been removed before placing in sonic - instrumentation is placed in sonic for further removing of bioburden. It would still be considered dirty before placing in sonic. the cleaning process removes grease, fat and lipids - these sediments are left behind. the sonic needs to be cleaned ,thus these remaining products have the potential of being transported to other cleaned instruments on the clean side.
Even after sonic cleaning rinsing is still necessary- you are then going back to dirty side.
the sonic cleaner is considered a mechanical peice of equipment for cleaning/ decontamination process. CS manual would be a resource for you.
hope this helps

Chapter 5 in the 6th editon of the Central Service Manual covers this issue very well. I would make sure a copy of this is available for your manager to read.
