Does anyone charge Vendors to wrap and sterlize their vendor sets? With the costs constraints that we are under I didnt know if anyone has been doing this or is planning on doing this?

Unheard of! How can you charge for something that generates revenue for your facility?

We are continuing to manage to smaller and smaller margins. The movement that I hear is that all avenues to decrease costs and increase revenues are on the table. We decontam, wrap, sterilize vendor sets which not only costs our labor, but also 100k in material (blue wrap, indicators, foam corners etc). Should we/can we continue to do it for free?

We are moving towards the green side with vendors providing sealed containers for their sets. To start the process, we purchased over 120 Aesculap pans for our ortho totals. These will no longer see wrap and the extra manhours it requires to do so. Not to mention goodbye to holes in wrap. Our direction is getting the rest of the vendors to follow suit.

And why wouldn't you want to charge for the cost of wrap and goods? The vendors make a ton of money from each use unless they are hooked into a purchasing coalition group where they are feeling the reduction in their profits. Look at this way, without the services of wrapping and sterilizing, the vendors would not have an avenue for revenue.
