I am trying to improve my computer skills by learning Excel 2002 and Word 2002, so that I can put all the paperwork that I now do manually, on the computer. Ex. Css Monthly accounting. My present computer at work is too old to take these new programs, and in order to take these classes, I need to work on a computer that has these programs. Since I work on the CSS processing floor as well as at my desk, my need for a "new" computer is not easy to defend. Also, my computer contact at work says that soon they will have a new e-mail system and my present computer will not take that either. Still this isn't enough to get what I need. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what else I can say to defend my cause?

do other departments within your facility have email? if so this should be adequate enough to get you upgrade. this is the age for communication - if you cannot respond by email this will significantly delay responding to others, and being able to be efficient in your work and productivity. forms/ memos etc can be done on computer programs and saved- shared with others as needed and retrieved readily versus writing every thing down and keeping volumes of paper.
