This is just me two cents.

I hope many of the members will join in on this topic.

Try wieght and sterilization times.

Now I have been out of the field for 4 years but the issue to me has been the weight of the tray relative to the ergonomics of how the tray can be used by all staff. From wrapping to loading, to storage to trasnsporting....I have always believed that the science of physics in relations to steam steriliazation was that the weight of the tray could be sterilized. How it can be done I leave that up to the PhD people. But it can be done.

Is the issue more ergonomics, can my staff lift, wrap.....rather than sterilize the tray( time).

Maybe the standard has to be look at it from that point of view, Not a specific weight, but a safety issue, who know what will be coming down the line mabye something has to be designed a ceratin way reguardless of everything else.

With all that said , I guess my questions is . Is it safety/ ergonomics more the issue than sterilization times that are a concerns if you had to rank them in order.

So what is the main issue in this debate on Tray weight and cycle times.

Safety / Ergonomics / of staff being able to lift, wrap, storage, transport the item/tray.

or
Sterilization cycle times are too long for " heavy trays". And what is a heay tray.

Lastly should a finate weight be established for a tray. And if so why or why not.

Your thouhgts.

I first look to see can my staff safely handle the tray then look at the sterilization parameters.

Hi,

I had the ergonomic team come in and do a site inspection and they helped us to make recommendations as to staff safety, and with lifting heavy sets. We also got buy in from surgery in our efforts to reduce the sets weights, as well.
