Looking for information on what other hospitals are usinf instead of isolation carts. New acute care director would like to get rid of the isolation carts and is looking at door hange cabinets but the problems with those is they do not hold enough supplies to get the nursing staff through one shift with out restocking. When we looked at these before CS would have to restock 5 to 6 times per shift.
Thank you

we do not use isolation carts anymore - It became an issue for infection control management - the carts were being used not only as isolation carts but other storage. all items are kept on the general stores exchange carts on the units. These carts are exchanged daily thus supplies can be readily available.

We underwent a big room redesign and eliminating iso carts was part of the process. We send up bins of gowns and everything else is kept in a cabinet outside the room. I agree that they become a storage area.

We have a company ICP Medical that is working with our Hospital to custom make over the door hanger or they can be installed on the walls or doors for our isolation units. The are about 200.00 each but they will take your measurements of boxes of gloves, gowns, masks, B/P cuffs etc and custom make these units for you. They do get a little heavy to lift on and off the doors so we are opting to have them mounted. They have been very accomodating to work with. I have listed their info below.

Who is restocking the isolation supplies to the units?

Hi,
The question was "who is re-stocking isolation supplies?" Here at MedCentral, the CS department fills/sends the isolation cart up to the department, with all of the required supplies. After that, the floor re-stocks the cart, as needed, from their floor stock and the replacement gowns from the linen department.
After use, (we) pick up the used cart, re-fill, and store until it is ordered again.
