I'm in the process of writing a proposal to present to Human Resources and Adminstration for Recognition for Certification. I was asked by The Vice President of Nursing to check my resources and research how many Central Sterilizing Dept. have their entire staff Certified, what was the amount of the pay increase and how was it achieved. Our CEO speaks at Management Meetings about becoming one of the top hospitals in the country (Solucient 100). We can start by recognizing our Certified Central Sterilizing Technicians.

Roe,

Many CS Departments are starting to develop career ladder programs using both certification together with CS experience as a measurement tool. With the upcoming IAHCSMM certification in Instrument Specialist (CIS), this will further add to the career ladder program.

Since salaries vary considerably in different parts of the country and even states, a specific dollar amount is difficult to identify. If you are looking for a dollar range, our career ladder program if approved will provide an increase of $3,000 - $7,000 depending on experience.

Have you viewed the IAHCSMM video...."Today's CS: Instrumental to Patient Care"?
Present this as an introduction to the subject when you speak to your VP or Human Resource Director. I did and it is very effective in capturing their attention on these issues.

Thanks Don, Can you please give me the order information for the video? I didn't find it at the IAHCSMM Website.

Roe...go to the IAHCSMM website Home Page and in the middle, under "Past Surveys" are various items for you to click on for information (the video information is about 5 boxes down)

Call me on Monday at 718-918-4381 if you have difficulty finding it and I will take you through it on your computer.

Good luck and let me know how you make out.

We require certification for Tech II and Tech III SPD staff. The classification have their own pay scale. The difference is about 5% between the Tech I (no Cert) Tech II and then Tech III.
