I would like to recertify but would like to keep it confidential.....in case I need to do it again (dont pass :o ).
Why couldnt you allow all the testing be done. Student pay and do all that is needed to apply and test, except what is now required by employer. If they pass the test THEN they would be required to submit employment information to complete/become crcst.

I really hope that administration, program directors could look at this. I KNOW for a fact that this is stopping myself and 3 other techs from applying.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks so much!! I dont mind discussing it here. Maybe i have it wrong....

#1 I understand that we may sit for the exam without taking the course again?

#2 To do this, we must submit verification from employer that we have so many hours worked in cpd prior to testing?

I would like to be able to sit for exam.....without bringing my employer into it.....so if i would NOT pass.......I would not have to be embarressed, humilated......in some cases possible lose job.

If student could sit for exam.....them having a choice in keeping it private or not.......they pass test.... THEN require that they provide proof of hours in cpd to complete certification.

Thanks again.....Sunshine

We as Managers have the same problems with taking the Managers/Supervisor exams. However, I am not embarassed if I failed or passede. I as a Manager do not look down on my employees if they fail or pass. Some people are good test takers and others struggle due too many reasons. I promote certification at all levels and work with them to achieve this. Look at it as being positive. If your boss or organization looks at it negatively, then try to have them look at it in a more positive way. Your Central Service Manager should not look at negatively.

Be positive and take the exam, whether it once or twice. I have several employees that took it more than once and passes. I am very proud of them for passing no matter how many times they took the exam.

Good luck!!!!!!!!

Sunshine,

As an SPD Supervisor/Manager we must verify you have performed and meet the requirements for the test. As a test taker you have no responsibilty to provide your scores to your supervisor/manager or even if you took the test.

there are only two reasons why you would share this information, but only one that would require you to. They are:

1. You are required to be certified to remain employed.
2. You choose to share this information.

Your supervisor also has no right to ask you or hound you if you have taken the test, failed the test, or even passed the test. We can't even try to get one of your coworkers to find out. With that said relax, don't woorry about it. However, keep this in mind before you go into a steath mode.

Most of us (Supervisors/Managers) are certified. In fact there aree some of us (not me) who are also R.N.'s with CS certification. Understand, we know how you are feeling. We went through it too. It is not an easy test. WE CAN HELP YOU! It is not just our responsibility to direct the day to day operations of the SPD department, but more emportantly to be a resource for our staff. Don't be afraid to ask your boss for help. We want our staff to succeed. Don't forget the more you know the more valuable you are to us and your facility. It's a win win situation for everyone you look good and the more expertise our employees get makes us look good. But the topper of it all is the more experiance and knowledge you have will give your facilty a great reputation for employing the best!

So don't hide anything...seek help from everyone and anyone you can.

I wish you the best of luck!!

Sunshine,

Once you have taken the certification exam (and failed) or it expired, you do not need to have your supervisor fill out the "hours required" part on the application again.

IAHCSMM Headquarters already has this information and the supervisor need not know that you did not pass the exam or that the certification expired.

If you have any questions, please call IAHCSMM headquarters.

You guys are great!! You really motivate a person!

I really perfer to do it on my own without bringing work into it......but you have inspired me to stop messing around. So i can just ask her to verify hours....theres not like a major form for her to fill out? If she ask questions....I'll tell her i'll explain later.

Someone said no one knows unless you tell them :) there is just something about hospitals and the way things travel. Anyone else experience that?

I was crcst for several years then let it expire. Work did not recognize us at all :( SO....... Also sat for spd exam and did well.

"Instrumental" to pt care.....I really really like that......

I have two techs that have taken the course, but have not gone and taken the test. It has been over a year since the test was taken. Is there a time limit as to how long one has to take the test and if they exceed that time do they lose their status as registered? Thanks

The only failures are those who do not try.
Sucess is from trying.

Take the certification test and be happy about it.
