What is the AAMI standard for releasing loads before biological results are read? In my hospital we experienced a positive B.I. in our ETO sterilizer, and since generally these B.I.'s incubate for (48) hours trays were released prior to favorable results being achieved. Should we quarantine loads until biological results are read and favorable?

It has been my experience that if you have a positive BI you recall all the loads from the time you read the positive BI going back to when you had the last negative BI in that sterilizer and reprocess them. I would run the sterilizer with a BI and quarantine the sterilizer until the BI is able to be read again. Sometimes it's just a bad BI and the next one is fine.
