Can anyone tell me if there is an AAMI Standard stating linen should be processed in an enclosed room? We are remodeling and I have requested a small room to process linen and in reviewing my floor plans this has been rejected. I need documentation supporting my argument. PLEASE HELP!

AAMI ST65 deals solely with processing surgical textiles. I have not had any luck in the couple of minutes that I have been looking in finding where it says that a separate room is required or recommended. What I am getting is that the linen should be inspected and de-linted at the laundry facility, whether you clean them in house, or they are sorted after being cleaned elsewhere. Hope this helps, and let us know if you find out anything more!

I can't tell you if there is a standard or guideline for a separate room for processing linen, BUT I can tell you from experience, that delinting and folding linen generates a lot of fiber and dust particles. We did not have a separate room at a previous facility, and our shelves were covered with a fine bluish "dust" from the linen. (towels especially) Hope this is helpful
