I'm asking how many sterile processing departments are responsible for code cart restocking versus it being handled in materials?
We are evaluating our policy and would like to have an idea of what is working best for others.
Thanks!
We handle it at my hospital. The hardest part is making sure we don't let anything outdate. We pull every cart every 2 months and remove any items that are within 3 months of outdating. Then we put them into circulation, so they won't be thrown away. I hate having any system that does not allow for mistakes, but on code carts, any mistake is an automatic disciplinary action. The way I look at is: in a code, the patient does not get a second chance, so we have to be perfect in our assembly.

At our hospital, we have a seperate Central Distribution area that takes care of most of the floor items, including the Code Carts. Our only responsiblity for the floors is to clean, wrap and sterilze non-disposables.
