volunteers, 32 hours decontam

We recently excepted volunteers from our certification class to do their 400 hours in our SPD. The volunteer office let us know that the volunteers cannot work in the decontamination area. How is a volunteer suppose to complete this part of the contact hours for certification? An other hospital in the same area has the same policy.

I have the same problem in Toronto, Canada. Some of the reasons given were "It is a sensitive area" and "the CS department is unionized and volunteers are not allowed.
Yes! How are we going to acquire the hours we need in order to write the certification exam? Any ideas from anyone?

Contact your infection control department and make sure that all requiment are meet. ( like TB , PPE training , Hippa papers are signed , and any thing else that may me a part of your P&P ) We have to do all of this with our HR department to . It takes a lttle time , but can be done. Good Luck.
