We will be offering a special Pre-Conference Workshop to our attendees on Saturday, May 2, 2009. The Hands-on-Labs and Workshops will address the daily challenges of central service and sterile processing professionals in their day to day departmental operations. For full descriptions of each Hands-on Lab or Workshop, please refer to the information below. There is no additional charge for these educational sessions, though pre-registration is required (see online registration form at bottom of page*).

Is Your Endoscope Really Clean?

Objectives:

  1. Be able to identify common models and features of flexible endoscopes (i.e., bronchoscopes, colonoscopes, duodenoscope, gastroscopes, etc.)
  2. Understand the anatomy of a scope from a reprocessing perspective
  3. Demonstrate the steps for pre-cleaning (bedside/immediately)
  4. Demonstrate the proper cleaning of soiled flexible endoscopes utilizing various manual and automated cleaning tools
  5. Demonstrate use of a validated QA (quality assurance) tests for residual soils to verify cleaning efficacy
  6. Understand the proper methods for disinfection/sterilization of flexible endoscopes
  7. Identify quality improvement initiatives for endoscope reprocessing protocols
  8. Explain how current literature, scientific principles and data support the implementation of a QA monitoring program for cleaning and disinfecting flexible endoscopes
